Peek Behind the Curtain: 2026 Anniversary Geisha Natural Legacy

Arriving at the mountainside to visit the Chilito family, I enter an ethereal realm.

Alexandra greets us, ushering us through a beautifully curated path of fruit trees and succulents. The breeze is constant and gentle, the light delicate and soothing. I meet and shake hands with Dionel and his brothers. Oliva, Dionel’s wife, takes a moment away from preparing a hearty meal we’ll later enjoy to welcome us and walk with me through her carefully crafted gardens of flowers crowned with a rainbow of orchids. I catch my first glimpse of their coffee fields over the tops of these flowers and trees speckled with guavas and avocados. 

Joining up again with the rest of the family, we begin to walk through each step of their coffee care. I’m immersed in ambrosial aroma as Dionel opens bags of the coffee in its final stage of preparation. The next wave of coffee is drying in its fruit on fabric sunbeds that flow with the caress of the breeze. Up the path a little further we wind through the new growth of Geisha plants that have had to be resown after being lost to a landslide. The coffee fruit tastes juicy and luminous.

I can’t remember a coffee tasting luminous before this moment.

Dedicated to the memory of Hosnoraldo Chilito, the Founder of El Roble, who passed a month before this release; he believed in the light of his land and his family to be the provenance of exquisite coffee.
