Journey into the Extraordinary: Myanmar Shwe Yi Mon Indie Select
Every so often, a coffee arrives that does more than just fill a cup—it reminds us why we do what we do. That our time, attention, decisions that we put into the world day after day can add up into something special and powerful. This particular Indie Select, the Myanmar 2025 lot, is one of those coffees.
From the moment it began its life on the farm to the moment it reached our cups, this lot has been shaped by a remarkable network of people and decisions. Its journey crosses borders and generations: a varietal developed over 90 years ago, a producer investing in the future through meticulous processing, import logisticians who shepherd every detail, and the connections that make it possible for a rare coffee to travel halfway around the world and land in your hands.

The Origin Story:
The seeds of this coffee’s quality were planted long ago. SL28 is an Arabica varietal developed in the 1930s by Scott Agricultural Laboratories in Kenya. Originally studied for drought resistance, it has become celebrated for its exceptional cup qualities—juicy, complex, with bright acidity and a clean, lingering finish. Over the decades, SL28 has been carefully cultivated by specialty growers across the world, making it an heirloom-quality coffee that expresses both its terroir and a rich lineage. Its journey from experimental varietal to worldwide prized specialty coffee highlights generations of agricultural innovation and investment.

The Hands of Mastery:
The journey continues with the producer, U Ye Mint, who is ushering in the future of specialty coffee through meticulous and innovative processing. Renowned as the top processor of the country, his work elevates the natural potential of the bean, using precise, controlled methods that enhance complexity and clarity in the cup. This level of dedication is what transforms a good harvest into an exceptional one.
The hands responsible for a powerhouse coffee are those who pick the ripe fruit, and the ones that spend hours meticulously sorting to ensure the flawless cup we get to drink in this Indie Select.

Shepherding the Details:
The transit of a rare coffee is a delicate operation, and our export/import logisticians act as crucial stewards in this process. They manage every supply chain detail, ensuring the coffee’s integrity is maintained every mile of its journey. Their expertise and rigorous standards are what make it possible for a coffee this rare and pristine to navigate half the world.
The Power of Connection:
Ultimately, this coffee is a celebration of the connectedness that underpin the specialty trade. It is the trust between the coffee grower, the importer, the roaster and the community, that allows such an incredible and rare product to travel globally and land directly in your hands.
