Cup Characteristics:
Fruity, complex, delicious-- this coffee from Gasharu in Rwanda comes to us as an old friend. Being our third year offering coffee from this farm, this naturally processed lot is full of dried fruit notes such as fig, as well as the sweetness of blackberry and molasses. It is truly a unique flavor experience, and sets the standard for high-quality Rwandan coffee.
About the Producer:
This very special coffee comes from the region of Gasharu in Rwanda and is produced by a group owned by the Rusatira family. This group features over 1600 partner farmers and over 300 community employees, over 70% of whom are women. A lot of effort is made to accommodate these employees' needs to ensure that they are able to maintain their work and income, as well as care for their children.
This ethically-sourced Arabica from the southern mountains of their country. It is grown along the shores of Lake Kivu near the Rwanda Congo-Nile Divide and the Nyungwe Forest National Park at elevations of 8500 feet or 2600 meters above sea level.
The Nyungwe Forest National Park where this coffee is grown is one of Central Africa’s most well-preserved mountainous rainforests and home to huge biodiversity, including 25% of Africa’s primate population. The elevation, soil, and climate of this region form the most ideal growing conditions for coffee.
