Producer Information
Barinas Farm’s story is rooted in resilience, vision, and a deep passion for coffee. Mrs. Theodora Jacinta and her family arrived in Araxá in 1820 under the Semaria da Manioca land grant. In 1950, Alberto Castro Alves (in memoriam)—father of Márcio Borges Castro Alves—planted the first coffee trees, becoming a pioneer of coffee cultivation in the region. Guided by his expertise as an economist and administrator, he introduced forward-thinking principles of diversification, integration, professionalism, and strategic partnerships that continue to shape the farm today.

In 1975, a devastating frost destroyed every coffee tree on the property, testing the family’s resolve. Yet their commitment to coffee never wavered. Fueled by perseverance and passion, Barinas Farm was reborn stronger than ever. Now led by the fifth generation, Barinas invites you to experience coffees of remarkable intensity and harmony—flavors that tell a story, awaken the senses, and celebrate generations of dedication.

Region Information
The Cerrado Mineiro region, located in northwest Minas Gerais, is a world-recognized coffee origin and Brazil’s first Designation of Origin. Its well-defined seasons—hot, wet summers followed by dry winters—create ideal conditions for harvesting and drying, contributing to the region’s consistently clean and high-quality coffees.

Minas Gerais is Brazil’s principal agricultural state, and the Cerrado is home to some of the country’s most respected coffee estates. Grown at elevations of 800–1,300 meters, the area’s 4,500 farmers produce a combined average of 6 million bags per harvest, with an average of 35 bags per hectare. Cerrado coffees reflect a culture of professionalism and innovation, shaped by generations of producers who combine technical expertise, entrepreneurial spirit, and a commitment to repeatable excellence.
